Rika, a 3rd grader, has been taking fiber arts classes with EyeCraftYouCraft since late September of 2020. In my Fiber Arts after school class, she learned how to thread a needle, how to set and finish an embroidery hoop, and how to create different types of stitches, including the running stitch, the backstitch, and several floral stitches. She very quickly got the needlework bug.
Soon she felt inspired and empowered to create several of her own original pieces. One was even an imagining of a scene from Lord of the Rings. She delighted her friends and family with homemade gifts, and continues to build on her newfound skills.
I often say that needlework is like painting with thread, and this lady loves painting, so it’s easy to see why she took to it so quickly. Here are two of her freehand creations using the running stitch, the fill stitch, and the woven wheel stitch. I can’t wait to see what else she brings to life!
